Training and Education

Aaina Education & Training Academy is a VCTC Approved Centre, and enables learners to access a number of courses that are focused on supporting women into education, employment and enterprise opportunities. Our ICT Training Suite is equiped with 7 PC's, laptops and interactive smart board. Courses are delivered to suit learner needs, making them flexible and remove the underlying restrictions placed by Adult Education providers that deter hard to reach learners. Aaina regularly consults with its service users and undertakes detailed consultations on behalf of the local community and will deliver, engage and facilitate training based on the needs of its service users. Aaina have an excellent reputation of delivering gender and culturally specific training, not only at our hub, but externally at other venues. Our specialisms include:

  • ESOL
  • Functional Skills - English and Mathematics
  • Sewing including Dressmaking, Design and Soft Furnishings
  • ICT
  • Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing
  • Employability and Work Skills Training
  • Enterprise Training

Employment and Enterprise

Employment - Jobsearch sessions are organised for women who are on work related benefits, have very limited skills and are attempting to access employment. Fully experienced facilitators are on hand to support our service users with help to build CV's, cover letters and complete application forms. We have translation services available on Tuesday mornings only. We also provide coaching and support in Interview Techniques. We are very keen to meet the needs of the local current labour market and tackle worklessness throughout the borough.

Enterprise - Enterprise workshops and fairs take place in the centre every month, encouraging local cottage industries to widen their customer base and develop skills in marketing and promotion. We have recently been awared the RBS Inspiring Enterprise grant.

Healthy Living & Support Services

Exercise and Healthy Lifestyles - We currently run Yoga Sessions on Tuesdays. This is funded by Comic Relief. We also work in partnership with Walsall NHS to deliver support sessions, wellbeing events and consultations on a regular basis.

A Mental Wellbeing Support Group takes place every Friday and is facilitated by local service users who lead and develop activities for the group to encourage participation and support networks.

Domestic Abuse & Hate Crime – support is provided for victims and signposting to local agencies. We also deliver training for frontline staff and in the community to raise awareness. Staff are regularly invited to discuss issues surrounding Domestic Abuse and Hate Crime on local radio and TV stations.

Community Development

Oasis Community Garden - The garden was developed in 2013 at the rear of the centre. It provides a safe, tranquil community space for local people to cultivate their gardening skills, whilst enjoying a spot of sunshine in the heart of the community. We have an active volunteers group who maintain the garden and encourage local people to get involved in organised activities and work in partnership with our neighbours - The Caldmore Village Community Garden.

Children and Youth Activities - Aaina works in partnership with Iqra Supplementary School, we deliver a programme of activities on the weekend from 11.00am to 5.00pm that enable local children and young people to get involved in fun and educational activities that boost confidence, self- esteem and enable young people to achieve and aspire in areas of learning and interest, which they would not otherwise be able to access.

Activities included enable young people who are restricted due to cultural and family pressures to access gender and culturally sensitive activities that enable them to participate in positive pastimes, that encourage personal development and enhance wellbeing.

Capacity Building - Aaina assists small organisations and Women’s Groups in the Borough with access to rooms at the Hub for delivery of activities and advice and support, governance, assistance with applying for funding, project planning and developing policies and procedures

Working in Partnership - We welcome invitations to work in partnership with other community groups in the area.
